Apple TV is a popular choice for the main television in the house. It connects over HDMI, runs tvOS, and installs apps from its own App Store. For our service, the Apple TV setup uses IBO Player Pro, the same app we recommend on iPhone and iPad.
This guide covers preparing the Apple TV, installing the app, entering your login with the remote and fixing the issues that come up most often during a first setup.
Before You Start
- An Apple TV connected to your television by HDMI and signed in with your Apple Account.
- A network connection, either Wi-Fi or Ethernet on models that have a network port.
- Your subscription email with Username, Password and Server URL.
- The Apple TV remote, charged or with fresh batteries depending on the model.
Step 1: Update tvOS
- Open Settings on the Apple TV.
- Go to System, then Software Updates.
- Choose Update Software and install anything available.
- Let the Apple TV restart and return to the home screen.
Step 2: Install IBO Player Pro
- Open the App Store app on the Apple TV home screen.
- Go to Search and enter IBO Player Pro.
- Select the app and choose Get.
- Once it installs, choose Open.
Availability in the App Store can depend on your country or region. If you cannot find it, contact our support team before trying anything else.
Step 3: Add Your Account with the Remote
- Inside the app, select the 'ADD USER' button.
- Move to the Username field and enter your username.
- Enter your Password, taking care with capitals.
- Enter the complete Server URL from your email.
- Save the profile, then select the Live TV icon to sync your channels.
Typing Shortcuts
Typing a server address letter by letter with the remote takes patience. If your iPhone is nearby and signed in to the same Apple Account, it may show a notification offering to type for the Apple TV, which lets you use the phone keyboard instead. On remotes with a microphone button, dictation is another option, but always read back what it entered.
Step 4: Settle In
The first sync can take a little while, depending on the size of the list and your connection. Leave the app on screen until it finishes rather than backing out, which can interrupt the process.
Once Live TV has synced, browse the categories with the touch surface or clickpad on your remote. Move the IBO Player Pro icon to the top row of your home screen by pressing and holding on it until it jiggles, then sliding it into place, so it is always easy to reach.
Picture and Sound Settings Worth Checking
Apple TV usually picks sensible output settings on its own, but a quick review is worthwhile on a new setup or a new television.
- Open Settings and choose Video and Audio.
- Look at Format and make sure it suits what your television can display.
- Review the Match Content options, which let the Apple TV adjust its output to the video being played.
- Under the audio options, check that sound is going to your TV speakers or to your soundbar or receiver, as you prefer.
If a change leaves the screen blank, wait a moment; tvOS normally asks you to confirm a new format and returns to the previous one if you do not.
Sleep and Remote Habits
Under Settings > General, the Sleep After option controls how long the Apple TV waits before going to sleep when idle. Setting it to a time that fits how you watch avoids the box dozing off during a long pause. To put it to sleep yourself, press and hold the TV or home button on the remote and choose the sleep option.
Network Tips for Apple TV
- If your model has an Ethernet port and the router is within reach, a cable gives the most consistent connection.
- Check signal and network details under Settings > Network.
- Keep the Apple TV out of closed metal cabinets that can block Wi-Fi.
- Restart from Settings > System > Restart after major changes to your network.
- If video keeps pausing after setup, follow our Apple TV buffering fixes.
Troubleshooting Apple TV Setup
The Login Is Not Accepted
Re-enter the details slowly and compare each character with your email. A missing port number on the Server URL is a frequent cause.
The App Freezes on Its Loading Screen
Close the app by double-pressing the TV or home button and swiping it away, then reopen it. If it keeps happening, restart the Apple TV from Settings.
The Picture Does Not Fill the Screen
Check Settings > Video and Audio to confirm the output format suits your television, then restart the app.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which app do I use on Apple TV?
Our Apple TV setup uses IBO Player Pro from the tvOS App Store.
Do I need an iPhone to set up Apple TV?
No. You can enter everything with the remote. An iPhone just makes typing faster.
Is Ethernet necessary?
It is not required, but on models with a network port it is often the most consistent option.
Why does the app ask me to press Live TV?
Selecting Live TV after saving your profile starts the sync that loads your streams into the app.
How do I keep IBO Player Pro updated on Apple TV?
Open the App Store on the Apple TV and check for updates, or turn on automatic app updates in the Apple TV settings so new versions install on their own.
