With a screen several times the size of a phone, an iPad works well as a television for rooms that do not have one: a guest room, a home office, a kid’s homework desk or the end of the kitchen table. It is also light enough to carry out to the patio on a nice evening.

Setup follows the same pattern as on other Apple devices, using IBO Player Pro from the App Store. The second half of this guide is about getting the iPad into a comfortable viewing position with decent sound and a reliable connection.

Getting Ready

  • An iPad signed in to the App Store.
  • Your login details from the purchase email.
  • A home Wi-Fi connection.
  • Optionally, a stand, folio case or keyboard case.

Check for system updates first under Settings > General > Software Update, and confirm you have some free space under Settings > General > iPad Storage.

Step 1: Get IBO Player Pro from the App Store

  1. Launch the App Store.
  2. Search for IBO Player Pro.
  3. Look over the listing and tap Get.
  4. Approve the download with your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID.

If you cannot find it in your region’s App Store, our support team can advise. Please do not try to install it from a website.

Step 2: Create Your Profile

  1. Start IBO Player Pro and press ADD USER.
  2. Type or paste your Username.
  3. Add your Password exactly as provided.
  4. Add the full Server URL.
  5. Save, then press the Live TV icon to sync your streams.

Read and Type Side by Side

On iPad you can open Mail and IBO Player Pro next to each other using Split View, so your details stay visible while you enter them. A keyboard case makes long server addresses quicker to type and easier to proofread.

Step 3: Set Up Your Viewing Spot

Height and Angle

Prop the iPad in landscape so the picture uses the full width. A folio case folded into a triangle or a basic desk stand keeps it upright. Tilting it slightly upward and keeping it out of direct sunlight reduces reflections.

Sound That Carries

For a quiet bedroom, AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones keep the sound personal. In a busy kitchen, pairing a Bluetooth speaker through Settings > Bluetooth gives a much fuller sound than the built-in speakers alone.

Power for Long Evenings

An iPad battery lasts a good while, but a movie night can still run it down. Keep a charging cable that reaches your viewing spot.

Wi-Fi in Every Room

Because the iPad travels around the house, signal strength changes from room to room. If playback is smooth in the living room but not upstairs, the distance from the router is the likely cause. Try a spot with a clearer line toward the router, and keep the iPad away from microwaves and other appliances while you watch.

An iPad the Whole Family Uses

Shared iPads tend to collect apps, downloads and open tabs from everyone in the house. That clutter can leave less room and memory for the player. Every so often, review Settings > General > iPad Storage and remove apps that nobody opens anymore, and close apps you are not using from the app switcher before a long movie.

Adding IBO Player Pro to the Dock keeps it easy to find no matter who used the iPad last. Drag the icon down from the home screen into the Dock and it will stay there.

Taking the iPad Outside

A patio or backyard can be a lovely place to watch on a mild evening, but it brings its own challenges. Outdoor light washes out the screen, so turn brightness up and position the iPad with your back to the sun. Wi-Fi reaches only so far beyond the walls of the house; test playback at the table you plan to use before inviting everyone out.

Heat is the other concern. Leaving an iPad in direct summer sun can make it pause or show a temperature warning, so a shaded spot is better for both the picture and the device.

Keeping the App Current

Open the App Store, tap your account picture and look for IBO Player Pro under available updates. Turning on automatic app updates in Settings > App Store saves you from checking by hand. Installing iPadOS updates when they appear also helps the app run as intended.

Troubleshooting on iPad

The App Asks for Details Again

If your profile disappears after an app update or reinstall, add it once more with ADD USER using the same email details.

The Screen Will Not Go Full Width

Rotate the iPad to landscape, and check that Rotation Lock is off in Control Center. If Split View is active, drag the divider to give the player the whole screen.

Playback Stalls in Certain Rooms

Test the same channel close to the router. If it plays well there, the issue is coverage in that room rather than the app.

For other Apple devices, see our iPhone guide and Apple TV guide, or check the installation page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the iPad setup the same as on iPhone?

The steps in IBO Player Pro are the same. The iPad simply gives you more screen and multitasking options such as Split View.

Can I use an Android tablet instead?

Yes. Our Android tablet guide covers the Google Play setup.

Do I need a keyboard?

No, the on-screen keyboard works fine. A physical keyboard just makes typing long addresses easier.
