Updates are easy to ignore. The pop-up appears at an inconvenient moment, you tap Later, and weeks go by. Yet many playback and stability problems are fixed in exactly those updates, and an outdated app can stop working properly after the device software around it changes.

There are two layers to keep current: the player app itself, and the system software on the device it runs on. This guide covers both for every platform in our setup instructions, and shows how to make updates happen on their own.

Why Updates Matter for Streaming

  • Bug fixes can resolve crashes, freezes and playback glitches.
  • Compatibility changes keep apps working after a system update.
  • Security improvements protect your device and accounts.
  • Performance tweaks may help apps run more smoothly on older hardware.

Updating Android Devices

Update Your Apps

  1. Open Google Play and tap your profile picture, or open the settings menu on a TV box.
  2. Choose Manage apps & device, or the updates section on your box.
  3. Update IBO Player Pro or TiviMate if it appears in the list.

To automate this, look in the Play Store settings for the auto-update option and choose whether updates may run over any network or Wi-Fi only.

Update the System

Open Settings and look for System update or Software update; on TV boxes it may sit under Device Preferences or About. Manufacturers release updates on different schedules, and some older boxes stop receiving them.

iPhone and iPad

  1. For apps, open the App Store, tap your profile picture and update IBO Player Pro if listed.
  2. For automatic app updates, go to Settings > App Store and turn on App Updates.
  3. For the system, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  4. Tap Automatic Updates there to let iOS or iPadOS install updates overnight.

Apple TV

  1. Open Settings > System > Software Updates and choose Update Software.
  2. Turn on Automatically Update in the same menu.
  3. For apps, look in the Apps section of Settings for the option to update apps automatically.

Apple TV usually installs updates while it sleeps, so leaving it plugged in overnight helps. If you are setting one up, our Apple TV guide covers the first update.

Windows PCs and Laptops

  1. Open Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
  2. Install what is offered and restart when asked.
  3. Check Advanced options > Optional updates for driver updates.
  4. For IBO Player Pro, watch for an update notice in the app or check the developer’s official website for a newer version.

Download any new Windows version of the app only from that official source, the same way you installed it originally.

Find the Version You Are Running

Support may ask which version of the app you have, and it helps you confirm an update actually installed. The version number is usually shown in one of these places:

  • Inside the app, in a settings, about or info section.
  • On Android, under Settings > Apps > the app name, often near the bottom of the page.
  • On iPhone and iPad, on the app page in the App Store under version history.
  • On Windows, under Settings > Apps > Installed apps, next to the app name.

When an Update Changes the Layout

Occasionally an app update moves menus around or changes how screens look. Give it a few days before deciding you dislike it; familiar features are usually still there under new names. If something you rely on seems to have disappeared, check the app settings first and then ask our team, who can point you to where it moved.

A Simple Monthly Routine

Even with automatic updates on, a quick monthly check catches anything that slipped through. Pick a day, such as the first weekend of the month, and run through each device in the house: app store updates, system updates, then a restart. It takes a few minutes and keeps every screen in good shape.

Updating Without Interrupting Your Viewing

  • Schedule automatic updates for overnight where the device allows it.
  • Avoid starting a large system update right before you plan to watch.
  • Keep devices plugged in, since some will not update on low battery.
  • Let updates finish completely before unplugging or restarting.

Troubleshooting Updates

An Update Will Not Install

Low storage is the usual cause. Free some space, restart and try again; our Android TV box storage guide shows how on Android.

The App Misbehaves After an Update

Restart the device first. If the problem continues, a fresh copy usually helps; see our guide on how to reinstall an IPTV app.

The Device No Longer Receives Updates

Older hardware eventually stops getting system updates. Apps may keep working for a while, but if problems grow, it may be time to consider a newer device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will updating the app sign me out?

Normally not. Your profile usually stays in place after an app update.

Should I update the device or the app first?

Either order works. Many people update the system first, restart, and then update apps.

Is it safe to update from a pop-up in the app?

On Android and Apple devices, updates come through the official store. On Windows, follow update prompts only if they lead to the developer’s official website.

Do I need to update every device in my home?

Yes, each device updates separately, so check them one by one.
